What are the documents needed to register furniture business as small scale industry?

Furniture business is a very profitable business which can be started at small level also. Generally when people start furniture making business at very small level in remote areas, usually they do not take any license.

They make different types of furniture as they get advance order from any showroom and businesses. But if you want to establish minimum size of furniture manufacturing business then it is necessary to have required license.

Since manufacturing and sales of furniture business should be followed according to law and regulation of the government. Otherwise you might be facing any kind of problems from government and public both so need to do proper documentation before starting furniture business.

Since these are specialized manufacturing units that use flammable materials or welding equipment and gas equipment that can cause fires during the woodworking process.

Like other kind of manufacturing unit it also required NOC from local panchayat or municipality. And if power consumption exceeded 5 HP then you need to take consent from pollution control board also.

Carpentry work in furniture manufacturing requires the use of adequate equipment and various licenses depending on the size of your workshop, the number of employees and business unit you choose.

There are following documents as license and registrations are required to open a furniture manufacturing business. 

  1. Company Registration 

For establish of furniture manufacturing unit first you need to get registration of your company. There are different types of registration of company as per Companies Act 2013.

Based on the size of company :- On the basis of size of the company can be divided in two category (a) Small Companies and (b) Other Companies

Based on the number of the members :- On the basis of number of the members divided in three category (a) One Person Company (b) Private Companies and (c) Associate Companies.

Based on the control :- On the basis of control divided in three category (a) Holding companies (b) Subsidiary companies and (c) Associate Companies

Based on the Liability :- On the basis of liability company can be divided in to three category as (a) Companies limited by share (b) Companies limited by guarantee and (c) Unlimited Companies

2.Trade License 

Trade license is issued by local municipal corporation, therefore need to get permission by taking license from local municipal corporation.

3. GST Registration

GST registration is mandatory for all businesses whose annual turnover is over 20 Lakh or 10 Lakh based on the location of business and sells of furniture across the state or intend to sell online.

4. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Pollution Control Board

Need to obtain NOC (No Objection Certificate) from central and state Pollution Control Board. The Central Control Board (CPCB) comes under the Ministry of Forest, Environment and climate in India which gives permission for operations to the industry for becoming a source of pollution in any way. Both Central and State pollution control boards working together for supporting the cause of the environment.

5. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Fire department

There is need to obtain NOC from Fire department since in this business uses flammable materials or welding equipment and gas equipment that can cause fires during the woodworking process.

6. BIS Certificate required

BIS Certificate need to obtain from Bureau of Indian Standards  which formulates standards and certify products following the rules.

7. IEC registration required

To enter in the export market you need IEC registration which is provided by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. And this is the certificate to trade smoothly in international market.
